May promises to be an exciting and busy month for Mothers’ Union members and friends throughout the Diocese.

We look forward to the launch, by Bishop Burrows, of Root and Branch, a record of Mothers' Union in Cashel, Ossory, Ferns, Leighlin, Waterford, Lismore and Emly, at the Festival Service in Bunclody on 16th May. Many people throughout the Dioceses, and beyond, have invested time and effort in researching Branch and Diocesan records. The result is twofold – the publication, Root and Branch, and also a selection of records which will be of immense value within the particular Mothers' Union Branches throughout the Diocese. Root and Branch gives us an opportunity to remember and celebrate the past while looking forward with faith and confidence to the future. Mothers' Union members remain faithful to the vision of "bringing about a world where God's love is shown through loving, respectful and flourishing relationships". We look forward to having you with us in Bunclody as we celebrate this very special occasion.

posterMums in May tea parties will abound with the national launch taking place following the Mothers' Union monthly service in Christ Church Cathedral on 3rd May. This is an All Ireland project and funds raised will be divided between the Centenary Fund which assists those going forward for ordained ministry (25%), Diocesan projects (50%) and worldwide (25%). Each Diocese may apply for assistance for projects at either Diocesan or Branch level. Share a cuppa, enjoy the friendship and of course taste "Teatime Treats - the 125th Anniversary Cookery Book! (Available from your local Branch).

Kilnamanagh Hall was the venue for the Ferns Area Meeting in March which was hosted by Kilnamanagh/Ardamine Branch and organised by Elizabeth Johnston. It was wonderful to see more and more chairs being brought out as the hall was filled to capacity. Mr. Niall Hatch from Birdwatch Ireland introduced us to the many dangers facing our native bird population at present. This meeting was particularly appropriate as our Diocese works to promote a responsible attitude to our environment.

I mentioned confidence in a previous paragraph. This confidence received a tremendous boost recently with the announcement of a grant of €33,000 from the Bishop's Appeal Educate for Life fund for the Literacy Project in Burundi. What a difference this will make to so many families.
